U.S. Army Japan Confirms First COVID-19 Positive Test
A United States Army Japan (USARJ) dependent has tested positive for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), making this the first confirmed case within the Army community in Japan.
The dependent returned from the United States on March 19 and immediately went into Restriction of Movement (ROM). Since March 11, USARJ has required personnel returning to Japan to be immediately restricted to quarters for 14 days, regardless of their health condition.
The patient is currently in isolation at Camp Zama and under direct medical care and supervision from USARJ medical providers.
The patient resided with two other family members in the USARJ community. One family member was tested and found negative. Both family members are under quarantine at Camp Zama and will be retested.
The overall risk to individual USARJ members in Japan remains low to moderate. The command encourages strict hygiene measures, good social distancing, and traveling only when necessary to reduce the risk of transmission. Anyone who believes they are ill should coordinate with their organization to stay home and avoid exposing others to the infection.
USARJ remains at Health Protection Condition Charlie and is implementing all appropriate control measures to help control the spread of COVID-19 to protect its Soldiers, civilians, host nation employees, and their families.
