Default British couple return to Vietnam after three years of COVID-19 infection

Shan Coralie Barker and her husband Dixon John Garth, both COVID-19 patients in Vietnam, were reunited with the doctors and nurses who treated them at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi. The couple spent two hours talking to the medical staff and then presented them with a book of more than 100 pages documenting their journey during their time in the hospital.

The couple had travelled to Vietnam from the UK in March 2020 to visit their son, but unfortunately, they both tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. They were admitted to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment, where Barker recovered from the disease, but her husband, who had a history of blood cancer, suffered from respiratory failure and required mechanical ventilation. After more than a month in the hospital, Garth was discharged on April 13, 2020, and they both returned to the UK the following day.

Barker informed the doctors that the hospital was their first stop on their trip to Vietnam this time, and they planned to visit the country's scenic spots that they missed due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.
